After an indelible portrayal of troubled Eleven on “Stranger Things,” Millie Bobby Brown performs a wise beyond her years in a new movie “Enola Holmes”. Her character, named Enola Holmes, solves puzzles that are both mentally and physically challenging, and provide a clear path forward in a world that is dark and confusing. All-in-all, Enola Holmes is an inspiration to girls around the globe.
The youthful sleuth chasing clues and solving crimes, Brown displays the same sort of mature presence and poise as we have seen on the Netflix sci-fi series but also an engaging playful side and flawless comic timing. And the way ‘Enola Holmes’ ends, this may be an indication of the start of a most welcome girl-powered franchise.
In the movie, Enola has this capacity to break the fourth wall and speak directly to the audience. Alongside a wily mother, played by Helena Bonham Carter, Enola Holmes has Dickinson’s powers of being a badass teen-girl detective with a modern sensibility in Victorian times. The trailer sees the Holmes family members doing the battle of wits against each other. And needless to say, it looks promising. We will see the two Holmes women fight back the patriarchal double-standards of Victorian society which tries to push them back into the kitchen and the bedroom. As Mama Holmes tells Enola, “there are two paths you can take. Yours or the path others choose for you.” – We will see these two ladies giving all the men around them a run for their money.
Millie Bobby Brown who has become one of the most influential voices of her generation, after her success on Stranger Things. She was named UNICEF’s youngest-ever goodwill ambassador – a role that enabled her to raise awareness of child rights, lack of education among girls, the impact of violence, bullying, and poverty worldwide. She really has emerged as an inspiration to young girls around the globe.
“She is brave, vulnerable, honest, and witty. Plus, she is a people person. Her story is about how she is afraid of loneliness, and in the end, she finds her purpose in life. I’ve gone through that. It resonates with me in so many ways.” – Millie Bobby Brown described portraying Enola Holmes while interviewing for Vogue.
I think Brown possesses the range to reveal the layers in Enola’s character – her wit and the warmth of her compassion against her fears, her insecurities, and her grief. Brown and her sister jumping into the project as co-producers is a good sign as women’s voices are being represented behind the scenes. The whole production also bleeds the strong female character that’s often a product of men co-opting stories about women and shoving them through a masculine concept of agency.
Brown also shed some light on how Enola Holmes is an inspiration to girls during her interview for Vogue, She said, “As young girls at work, online and in schools, sometimes we aren’t seen as equals. In school, especially, you can be belittled and made to feel as though you’re not good enough, or as good as the boy sat next to you. This movie empowers young girls to speak up for what they believe in.”
We all are excited to watch Millie Bobby Brown saas sexist men and walk away from an explosion with that stereotypical badass expression. On the contrary, this expression doesn’t represent Enola Holmes correctly. The Enola Holmes character is focused on a girl coming of age while learning to struggle with her contradictions and discovering her passions in life. Her character actually being like the other girls inspires those girls that they can be as extravagant as her.
Anyway, Enola Holmes’ character is as excitable as it is. There is something else very exciting. You can watch movies and socialize around them. SonderBlu is the world’s first interactive movie streaming platform where you can connect, share, stream, and socialize around movies.
